I have been ill today, I have a cold and feel a bit crappy and so didn't go into classes today. It's actually kind of liberating as I feel completely justified in just sitting around in my pyjamas all day for once. My flatmate was very sweet though and brought me back a subway and chocolate to eat for lunch.

As part of my remedy plans I watched 'Its a Terrible Life' I must say it made me laugh a lot, which I always count as a very good sign for an episode!

Ok, so I finally went to see My Bloody Valentine last Saturday, and am only now getting around to posting some of my thoughts about it. Hopefully this has given them some time to ferment in my brain! I will put all the spoilers under the cut even though I think most of you have seen it by now :D

In other matters, my friend and I found something really interesting yesterday so I thought I'd share it. We had dinner with her parents at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, where they were staying and on the walls in the corridors there were displayed old letters that were sent to guests and not collected or sent to staff etc. There were a whole lot of letters that were written by two people to each other, they both seemed to travel loads and so sent their letters to the hotel. At first the letters seemed like they were just friends, but after a couple we definitely thought they sounded more like lovers, they also sent each other pressed flowers and sketches and newspaper clippings, it was so sweet. However she was definitely married to someone else and they spoke of having secret meetings, the labels the hotel put up said that the letters had started in the 1920's and continued on and off for 80 years. They were discovered in a trunk a couple of years ago when the Midland was refurbished, the letters had all been read at the hotel but not been removed, I guess in case they were found by the wrong person. It just seems amazing that they could have an affair for so long and communicating mainly through a hotel. They seemed like they were both really nice people and it was interesting seeing this little snapshot into their lives, I so wanted to see the rest to find out the whole story, apparently there were hundreds! Anyway bits of real history like this make me squeee. It should so totally be made into a film I think, with some kind of happy ending :D
