Only One Number Off (Prompt 68)

Brian rolled his eyes. He definitely should have avoided the diner. Instead of its usual rainbow apparel, it exploded with pinks and reds, hearts and flowers. He was meeting the gang for lunch, however, so he couldn’t just turn around and leave, well, he could he mused, but everywhere else would likely be as bad.

Inside he found Melanie and Lindsey, gazing adoringly into each others eyes. Lindsey was clutching the requisite dozen red roses close to her chest. Brian slid into the booth opposite and then leant forwards, clicking his fingers between their faces.

“Hello, anyone left on planet earth?” he said with a smirk. Mel turned to him with a look of annoyance, “excuse me if some of us are actually enjoying our Valentines Day, and celebrating our love.” Her look turned calculating and now she smirked, “so, what have you got Justin for Valentines Day?” she asked sweetly. Brian presented her with a well practised blank stare. “Oh, Bri-an,” said Lindsey with a long-suffering sigh. Brian rolled his eyes again. At least Justin seemed to have adopted the appropriate spirit for Valentines this year, as he hadn’t heard a peep out of him about it. In fact, whenever it was mentioned, Justin appeared slightly amused, Brian was still trying to work out whether this was a good thing or a bad thing.

The bell on the diner door rang, announcing the arrival of Michael and Ben. Michael appeared to be holding some sort of stuffed toy and wearing a huge grin. They sat down opposite each other, linking fingers across the table. Michael turned to Brian, “look, Ben bought me a teddy-bear, isn’t it cute?” Brian gave them both his best withering stare. Ben just laughed and Michael pouted.

“Oh my God! Isn’t that just adorable!” Debbie swooped over, smacking giant kisses on Michael and Ben’s cheeks. “Isn’t it lovely to see everyone so happy?” she gushed with starry eyes. Her face hardened instantly, “speaking of, where’s Sunshine today?” she demanded, cracking her gum. Brian held up his hands in a gesture of innocence, “he said he had to do some work and couldn’t come.” Debbie frowned at him suspiciously, but limited herself to, “hmmpf,” closely followed by, “so what’s everyone having, the special today is Shepherd’s Pie, in the shape of a heart.”

That night, Brian was already lying in bed, due to having an early start the next day, Justin was obviously working late and hadn’t yet left his studio. It was nearly midnight when Justin finally pushed open the bedroom door and walked inside. He looked paint-splattered, but satisfied, as he smiled mischievously at Brian, Brian raised his eyebrows in question. Justin turned away and started stripping off his clothes as he made his way to the shower. Brian’s almost certain he didn’t do that thing with his butt on purpose.

When Justin got out of the bathroom, looking clean and dry, except for slightly damp hair curling on his temples and neck, he stood at the end of the bed, looking down at Brian. Brian threw back the covers beside him, inviting Justin into the bed. Justin crawled onto the bed, but then kept going, pushing back the quilt over Brian as well. He moved to straddle him; arms braced either side of Brian’s head.

“I thought we should exchange our Valentines Day gifts now,” the mischievous look was back in Justin’s eyes. Brian’s eyes slid to the clock behind them, “oh look, twelve oh one, it’s not Valentines anymore, seems you missed your slot, Sunshine,” said Brian teasingly. Justin lowered his head, nibbling on Brian’s lips, before slipping his tongue between them and exploring his mouth. One of Brian’s hands came up to play with Justin’s hair, the other stroked down his ribcage. Justin pulled back until he was sitting on Brian’s stomach, rubbing his hands across his chest and nipples. He cocked an eyebrow, “so you don’t want your present?” Justin reversed his position, so his head was between Brian’s legs. He pressed a kiss to Brian’s inner thigh. “I thought we could exchange them…simultaneously.” Brian’s breath puffed out in a chuckle, tickling the hair at Justin’s groin. “Ever the romantic.”
